| Kalina – or Authentic Ukrainian Experience |
|
Feeling home sick? Miss the smell of your mum’s cooking? Or just fancy a change? Then visit ‘Kalina’, the Ukranian restaurant situated in Soho Square opposite the famous hotel ‘Savoy’. In fact, this restaurant is only one of several multicultural restaurants in Soho Square, the next big thing round town. The newly opened restaurant is known for its authentic Ukrainian cuisine, relaxing atmosphere, excellent service and friendly staff. Kalina is a typical Ukrainian restaurant where every tiny detail was taken into consideration. The decor is fascinating combining blending colours, the wooden well, paintings of Ukrainian characters on the wall and the traditional Ukrainian dolls located in every corner of the place. Waiter’s attire is also worth mentioning: it consists of a pair of red pantaloons (called ‘sharovary’) and a white shirt (‘rubaha’) which produces a striking effect on every visitor; whereas the soft Ukrainian music get you in the mood and make you feel you’re at home. The view from the second floor is also overwhelming: it shows you the entire square lit with colourful lights, whereas the sea life displayed on the flat screen monitor is more than awe-inspiring. Dishes, however, should be described in a separate article, as their taste is hard to beat. Kalina has a large choice of traditional Ukrainian specialties and delicacies on the menu that will make your mouth water from only reading them. Starting with the wide range of soups and salads including Solyanka, Okroshka, Borcht, Kholodez, Olivie and Oseledez Pid Shuboyu. Then on to the delicious main course of which we would recommend that you try the Beef Fillet Steak, Farmer Style Chicken and the Salmon A La Monastry, all whose divine taste is just bliss to your taste buds. As well as the wide selection of side dishes and the piece de la resisstance desserts that are absolutely scrumptious. Not to mention the appetizing presentation that is a reflection of the efficient management and excellent Ukrainian chefs. So, whether it’s their secret ingredients or cooking methods something certainly sets them apart and makes them shine above the rest. Portions are just the right size to satisfy you, yet leave you craving for more... Prices start from 15 L.E. and there is a formal dress code.
